I ordered 2 replacement piston for my motor, and am concerned that I've ordered the wrong parts. <br /> <br />Original pistons had 3-rings <br /> <br />Replacement standard pistons have only 2-rings. <br />Motor s/n OA732655 <br />I ordered part number: 774-9137A12 Qty (2) <br /> <br />Of course, I was planning on re-using one original piston but it has 3-rings. <br /> <br />Can I mix & match pistons like this <br /> <br />Will my new rings (39- 78816A12) fit the original 3-ring style piston?

hehe on my 1976 115 tower the original pistons had 2 rings and the replacments had 3 All three rings were identical with mine. I have heard that the guys who race them run them with only 2 <br />Jon

Thanks for the advice. I've found out that he pistons are interchangeable, but the rings are not. Lucky for me I accidentally ordered the old rings for my 3rd piston. The 2-ring pistons use a much wider ring.<br /><br />Thanks again.

Man that was lucky eh! Gotta love it when a plan comes together eh? do you have a good ring compressor? If not a beer can sliced in half and a tyrap work great

Man thats funny it was a Keith's can that I used <br />Make sure you oil up the can and piston well! I lined up the slice in the can with the top ring end gap and marked the other ones so I could tell they were lined up properly when I set them. slide the tyrap up from the bottom of the piston and before you get rite up to the rings you can still slide them around to line them up <br />I used an awl to get my clips out but putting the new ones in was a *****, if I had to do it again I would buy the right tool.<br />Jon

Yup.... I have the old ones out (bent), and the new clips in. Definitely wouldl buy the right tool for installation, next time!<br /><br />Chug...chug.. (B) <--- beer

132 psig <br />130 psig <br />130 psig <br /> <br /> <br />WOOOOOHOOOOO !!! <br /> <br /> <br />Started right up, although smokey as it is full of fogging oil & I have doubled up on the oil mix for the moment. <br /> <br />Idles 100% better than before (no shakies). 10:30pm so I couldn't run it too long before my neighbors called the police....lol <br /> <br />What's the appropriate break-in process I need to follow after a re-build ? <br /> <br />I am on holidays...and my boat is coming with me!!!

Pictures say it all.... <br /><br /> <br /> <br /> <br />Boat ran great, having gone through about 2 tanks of fuel so far. I did however find a large boulder near the beach, when anchoring. Prop lost about 1/2 a blade. Ouch!<br /><br />
