I have a 1988 Bayliner Capri with a 1988 85 HP. Force engine. What is the proper fuel mixture? It runs fine ,but a little oil smoke.Would like to know the proper ratio.

50 to 1 is the proper mixture for that engine. If you plan to keep it, I suggest that you buy a Clymer manual as you will need it eventually.

Would it hurt to run the Force at 48:1? Or even 40:1?

If you start experimenting with a manufacturers requirement, you may find yourself looking for a new engine after yours locks up. Oil mixture is not something that is negotiable.

If you want less smoke, buy the expensive Quicksilver brand of oil.

I'm not concerned so much with smoke as bearing life. I read some 2-cycle racers use a richer oil mixture (probably different plugs, too).

The older 2-cycles, I believe, used richer oil mixtures and did smoke a lot.

Thanks for the reply. Informative forum you have here.

the bearing life should be fine with the factory mix, unless your turning a lot more rpm than what is specified, the only thing your going to help is the plugs fouling out.
