Hey all,
So had the boat out all day - loads of fun!! Did notice though that I sometimes get a miss every 2 - 5 seconds at idle, mostly when its cold but today it was doing it on and off after it was warmed up. It wasn't a consistent occurrence and once I had it in gear, it ran great through all rpm's. Not even sure its a miss (idles around 1050 in neutral, then slows way down instantly like its gonna stall, then catches again). I've rebuilt the carbs, fuel/air screws out 1-1/4 to 1-1/2, fuel pump rebuilt, plugs don't foul all that bad and I think are in pretty good shape (i take them out after each trip and clean them off, usually just have a little oil/gas and minor carbon), all fuel lines replaced, filters etc. Haven't checked compression and spark recently but at the end of last season both were good. I run about 32mph at 5250 rpm at WOT on a 17' maxum so can't see it being a compression issue and mixture screws are set out far enough. Just being paranoid about running to lean, i guess. What do ya all think?
Thanks

Set air screw at 1 and 1/8th turn. Too lean can cause it to run hot.Too rich can cause it to carbon up.
A decarb NEVER hurts.Take a good comp test.Thats like taking vitamins. Most don't need them, but just in case???
Sounds like it's running good.More people should take care of their motors like this.J

Re: 1988, 85 hp idle miss?

Thanks Jerry - I do enjoy working on this motor and getting it to run as close to perfect as can be.
Will try 1 1/8 and see how that goes. I did a decarb at the beginning of the season, but probably wouldn't hurt to do it again. She ran pretty good all day today too, but still getting a slight miss mostly when cold. Will adjust mixture, decarb and throw in some new plugs next weekend.

Thanks again.
