I just bought a 1988 bayliner and it has a 88 force 85hp outboard on it. However, the guy I bought it from did not give me any manuals. So here are my questions:

1 - how do I dewinterize it?

2 - what kind of gear oil do i use? Is it hard to change?

3 - What kind of oil should I use to mix with the gas?

4 - anyhtingelse I need to know about this engine?

any help would be appreciated!!

Welcome to iboats.

Congrats on the "new" boat.

Sounds like you are new to all this.
Also sounds like you may not have had a test run, or test drive, before the purchase. naughty naughty.

Your engine should be dependable, as long as you maintain it properly.
The best way to familiarize yourself with it, is to purchase a Clymer Force repair manual.

That engine really hates to be overheated, so don't start it if it isn't in water, and don't run it for more than 30 seconds if the water pump is not working. May need to replace the water pump impeller if you don't know the last time it was changed.

Read thru the maintenance sections, the "how it works" section, and look at the parts diagrams to learn the basic parts of the motor and where they are located ( lower unit, drain and vent screws, shift pivot screw, carbs, starter, etc.).

Oil for the fuel - any brand of TCW-3 rated oil, mix it 50 to 1. 2.6 ounces of oil for every gallon of gasoline, 87-89 octane.

lower unit lube - marine grade gearcase lube.

dewinterize - fresh fuel, clean or replace sparkplugs, clean electrical contacts to battery, check for spark,

Whatever you do, don't start making adjustments without a manual,
and don't be afraid to ask questions.
