Hello, like it reads, I'm in the middle of fixing up a recently bought '88 bass tracker tx17. this has the auto oil blender on it and after reading a lot about these failing, have decided to try and buy pass it.

my question is this... can these be bypassed by simply plugging that part of the blender that adds oil to the fuel?

i know that if the oil reservoir isn't kept more or less full, their will be an alarm. i know if their is no oil in the fuel then that can be big trouble too.

so, if by adding oil to the fuel tank, then filling the auto oil blender reservoir up to max, then plugging the auto oil blender reservoir so no oil from the auto blender enters the fuel line, would i still get a low oil warning even though oil is now pre mixed with the fuel?

Lets start w a topic in the correct engine forum.

What engine and the topic can be moved?

This is the boat resto forum, not really geared towards engine work....

Oh my bad...so sorry. I saw restoration and just thought it was all encompassing...it’s a 1988 mercury classic 50, 45 hp.

thanks

Auto-Blend is Mercury oiling system, so moved to Merc Outboard section.

There is more to the oiling system than you think. An external oil tank/pump refills the tank under the cowl.

I guess you are thinking of plugging the tank output under the cowl and going with pre-mix 50:1. It would probably be better to chuck the whole oiling system and disable alarms, but I'll let those with better knowledge advise you.

I don't think he has a tank on the motor. I believe you have the stand alone oil injection. Remove it from the motor and throw it in the nearest garbage can. That is a bad system.

Just cut the AutoBlend Unit from the Fuel Line, splice the line back together and Pre mix TCW-3 50:1

I honestly didn’t think the classic 50 (45hp) had such a system.
