This thread needs pictures. The bay you are referring to is the splashwell. Mine was screwed to the wooden transom with about a zillion screws. If yours is lose there could be rot. To be honest, replacing the transom on an aluminum boat is so not a big deal that if I had any doubt to it's structural integrity, I'd go ahead and replace it.

hey, guys its been while,

i have all my wood cut and want to no somthing before i carpet. should i put down primer and marine paint over the plywood before i carpet.. also i see that most boats new do not put any paint on there plywood on top or bottom. dose the wood have to breath.

Best way to seal the wood is with fiberglass. Second best way is with epoxy resin alone (poly resin is no good alone). Third best would be marine spar varnish. Then would be primer/paint. It does not need to breathe. You're definitely wise to seal it with something to protect the wood and keep your adhesive from getting sucked in.

indoor out door carpet glue.......thei is avalable from any home hardware type store.

back to the foam.......the foam is there for anti crush stregnth as well......in a tinny...its not so much structural so to speak......but it will help thin hulled alum boats from denting or thru hull penetration if a good whack happens. it can also save a boat from developing dents on a roller trailer.
