Agreed. New options: http://www.westmarine.com/buy/popular/swim-platform-teak

Or, as mentioned, try to source one from CraigsList, Ebay, etc. Get ready to refinish it, too. Nothing beats bringing a piece of teak to life again.

I must agree, teak is the ONLY way to go! Thanks everyone for all your input it has been very helpful. I will try all those avenues and will post pics of the Cobalt when I get her home.

Nice find! Get that wood shining! Good luck. Get a inventory of the mechanical needs, if any, first, and then you can have some fun with cosmetics.

I think a wood steering wheel would compliment the rest of the wood very, very nicely.

UPDATE: Ok had the boat out for a test run. It runs fantastic. Did come across a couple of things. First thing is I need to re-prop it for my use. It has a 21p on it I think a 19p to come out of the hole quicker, plane out faster and would be perfect for skiing, tubing etc.. Secondly it has some water coming in the engine compartment from somewhere in the outdrive( i think) it never gets hot or takes on more water after we first put it in the water. This could be normal ive just never had a boat do this. Figured out the bilge pump doesnt work from this which i am replacing. Water almost fills the recessed part below engine. Oh also I bought a new stereo for it due to the one in boat was as old as the boat. I have a wiring question about that as well. The old one had a fused lead( assuming hot) a black, brown and white. The new one has several wires.. I have a diagram for the new just not sure what exactly the old is. It appears the old must have a block somewhere or something after it leaves the stereo compartment because the speaker wires arent in that compartment.
Any and all feed back on these issues would be super appreciated. Thanks again!

Re: 1988 Celebrity 19BR

This may seem gloom and doom, but, I'm goin' in...

Water should not be coming in, so do not sluff that off as normal.

If it is coming in from the top part of the drive then it could be a leaky u-joint bellows. That is not a good thing and the u-joints will need to be replaced. The drive could have water in it because that part of the drive should never be subjected to water, it is not designed to keep it out.

The leak can be from around the outdrive, that usually means the transom is weak and the drive clamping has failed. I will let you imagine the rest.

It could just be the plug fixture, but that also means the transom has some aging issues.

You need to figure out the water intrusion issue, that should be a priority over the radio. That and the bilge pump since that is the only thing keeping you from sinking should you decide to still use the boat until you fix the water leak.

I agree the water is my main concern of course. The strange thing is it stops after i first put it in the water. We had it out for about 4 hours on Sunday running it up and down the lake. It gets to a certain point then stops. It seems as if its coming from towards the top of the outdrive from inside the enging compartment.

Tinkman- Nice boat,

Somthing you can do in your driveway that i had read on here to find a leak in the transom area.

Make sure your boat is on incline to the stern, then fill your bilge with water ( to just below the bottom of oil pan ) and look on the outside of the boat for water.

Just a thought!

Hope it's not to serious.

Check the drain petcocks on the motor. Had my old Boat pumping water in as the boat was running because a drain backed out of the motor block.

Maybe the u-joint bellows leaks when the drive is up then seals somewhat when the drive comes down, then on plane it (the bellows) is not in the water anyway. Could be shift cable bellows leaks when sitting, then is out of the water when planing.

If the engine cooling water is exiting then water would be coming in anytime the engine is running.

Is the water cold or warm in the bilge? Cold=from the Lake, warm =from the engine.
