My Chrysler 55 HP won't propel at higher speeds. When running at low rpm it will engage prop, but when speeding up prop suddendly disengages and engine races. I hear no grinding, almost as though gear is slipping on shaft???? any ideas? it will shift into forw & reverse, but slips at higher rpm....

Test to see if the prop has a spun hub. Draw a line on the prop to the cone at the very end that has a cotter pin in it. Use permanant marker or fingernail polish. Run motor and wait till it does what you posted then check to see if the lines you drew still line up. If not your prop is spun and will have to be fixed or replaced.
