I got this boat and motor a few weeks ago from my neighbor (My first boat) for 2k. It has been sitting in his yard for 2 years without being cranked. I brought it to my house and started messing around with it and got it running on the water hose. Took it in Trinity bay last weekend and noticed it was running sluggish and would not idle for longer than a few seconds and would not plane. After searching for the problem for a few days, I found one of the spark plug lead wires were loose. I bought a new one and installed it now it cranks right up. I attached a link to a video of the motor running from YouTube. wondering if this is what it's supposed to sound like? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=8O5XBp5NQzM

That the way a looper sounds but it really needs to have backpressure to set idle/timings,Someone has set it up for shallow water usage with the hydraulic jack plate and lower water pickup. Looks like filler has come off gearscase ...

I don't know what back pressure is our how to set idle/timing and I am not sure what you mean by filler. Lol I'm a newbie when it comes to boat motors.

Backpressure, in the case of outboard engines, is referring to water pressure on the exhaust. There's no pressure working against the exhaust when an outboard is running on a hose so they all seem to run much better as compared to sitting in the lake where the exhaust has to overcome much more pressure.

Look up 'Bob's Nose Cones' and you'll see what fazt is talking about.

And yes, that engine sounds exactly like my Rude 140 when running on the hose.

Awesome thanks for the help guys. One more question. Should I mix oil/gas 50:1 in this motor?
