1988 Evinrude 8 HP Remote Control Connector Kit

I have a 1988 Evinrude 8 HP that I want to find a remote throttle and shift connector kit for.

I have found a couple of references to Evinrude P/N 431840 or OMC P/N 173973.

Since I have hit almost every marine store in my area and have been looking online for quite a while now, it seems that these kits are no longer available, either new or used.

Does anyone know of another brand/year set/motor size kit that I can use? Even if I have to modify it to get it to work, I'm willing to give it a shot.

Does anyone have any pictures of their small outboards that are hooked up with remote controls? Perhaps, if I could get a sense of what the parts I need look like and how/where they are attached to the housing, I could adapt some pieces to work.

Any suggestions are welcome.

Just wondering why a remote on such a small motor? Are you just trying to get more weight forward?

Here is the remote set-up on my 1986 9.9


Here are the cable attachments. One one right is the sleeve that goes over the cable for the gear shift. Left one locks the cable into the hole in the cowl.

This is how the sleeve attaches to the cable.

This is how the throttle cable attaches to the cowl lock

Hole in the cowl where the cable lock attaches. The holes above the tiller tube are for a plate which the steering arm attaches. I don't know that I would recommend a tube attachment like mine. The PO did it and I have never used it.

In addition if you don't have it you'll need the key switch, wiring harness, and solenoid box, starter, and flywheel and nuetral switch.
