Ok so I have a seloc book and it shows alot of different carbs , but not the carbs I have exactly.
I have 589061-2 and 664061-1.When I got the boat the top carb had the float hinge adjustment tab facing up(flat plastic part of the float as the float side) and the bottom float adjustment tab facing down (with the rounder plastic part as the float side ).So I figured the top one was installed backwards since the flat part was floating in the bowl because every float ive ever incountered round part was always the part floating in the bowl.So I the book it shows multiple carbs diagrams and Im majorly confused. Is there a difference on both carb float sides or are they the same?
The boats an 88 carbs have 87 stamped on the circle on the side.Or did some goof ball before I got it srew it up ?
Any input would be great ?:)

Post pics???
The 88/87/86/85 and a lot more all fit.
the circle with the # is the year it was made.
Different carbs have different jets depending on local.
Mountain boats have different than ocean level.
I put in a pic this is how it fits. They should all be the same.
The white float is nothing but trouble.J

Also look at the top of the carb diagram pic it says bottom carb top carb. Is That confusing or what lol

Re: 1988 force 125 carb float issue

The only difference is teh fuel connectors. One is just an elbow and the other is a T
It looks like the float is right??? More pics???Of the float and then when the carb is upside down.
The float drop and height are important.
It should be flat(height) like the pic.
Then (drop) shouldn't touch the throat or the center.

Re: 1988 force 125 carb float issue

I Reinstalled them and set up like your picture.Did you see the differance the way the drop tab faces. It runs the same eather way. you would think it would run better with the floats installed correctly. The issue im having is this thing idle's like crap if at all.It starts right up on high idle ,has good throttle response.Very hard to get her in gear in the water.Ive cleaned carbs, rebuild fuel pump, cleaned the recirc system (was clogged bad )2 new coils because the wires were loose in 2 of the 4 the old ones, water fuel seperater,Ive got great spark.i set static timing at 32 compression comes in @ 140 on all 4 .I tried franks link n sync and still crappy idle.im using a tiny tach the correct rpm at idle shou:confused:ld be 750 800 right?

Re: 1988 force 125 carb float issue

Ok so i was able to get out on the lake yesterday I used my 6 hp kicker to get me out so I could work on the 125.I got it to go into gear somehow and it will only get up to hull speed at wot ,Bogging.I had my wife steer as i messed with the motor.I tryed to open up the throttle and advance the timing by hand and still a dog .I couldnt get any sign of an improvement no matter what i did and getting it in gear was not easy.Im thinking this thing has intermitent spark or some electrical malfuntion? any ideas?

Re: 1988 force 125 carb float issue

Idle??? There is a screw on the carb, called an air screw.Turn it in till it just bottoms(gently)then out 1 and 1/16th turn.
This should get you ideling in the lake or drive.
Both carbs opening at the same time?
Check the reeds behind the carb?
Bogging under load? The tank vent line clogged.
Water in the gas.Crap in the carbs.

An old hose delaminating from ethanol.
Your first pic:#40 and #23 make sure the holes are open and not clogged.
The timing linkage hooked up and moving right?
Sucking air at any of the connections??

Re: 1988 force 125 carb float issue

I set the air screw at about 1 and 1/4 runs good on high idle, both carbs are opening at the same time.
Reeds look fine there real clean.I inspected them with a flashlight they look great.
Bogs under load real bad.Real throaty sounding.
Pumped the tank out and filled with 25 gallons fresh gas and oil.
I have a sea sense water/ fuel sep installed.
Carbs are clean.Primer bulb is hard.No leaks.
Timing linkage moves with the controll fine.
Ill go over the hoses and check vent, I think i looked at it already
Is there wire connections under the fly wheel on top of the stator maybe theres a burnt wire or something?
