Hi Everyone,

First-time poster and novice boat owner as well. I inherited a 1988 Bayliner with the notorious Force 50 that I have read so much about on this site. The boat had been sitting for several years before it came into my hands, however, she started right up the first time I turned the key. I had no problems at all in the first 12-15 times out, but on my last outing the engine lost power and puttered out. I'm now unable to get it started and I need your help!

When I turn the key, I can't get the engine to turn over. She wants to turn over, but all I get is some exhaust popping.

I've checked the fuel system and everything seems to be ok on that front. All of the lines are open, and I know that gas is getting to the carb since it spits a little when I choke it. Battery is good. Plugs are good. Fuel is clean.

FORCE geniuses--what checklist do I need to go through to find the issue? Any advice would help.

Thanks,

Austen

Water in the gas ??? Put some in a jar and let it settle the water will be at the bottom.

I had a 40 hp force start popping and not run. It was the shear pin or woodruff key between flywheel and crank that broke

I had same problem recently. It was the key that holds cam down and flywheel in place. It was a $7.00 fix. You may want to check or even change your points also if you pull flywheel.
