The book is like 40bukz..But well worth it.
The tuneup procedure is about 15 pages long,
but it's step-by-step.

------------------
the Early bird get's the worm...So, he don't have to stop for bait.

You're new to boating? Welcome to the forum. What kinda boat?
If it has been in storage, then get a can of decarb cleaner. spray some into the carb.
Remove the plugs, and pray some in the holes.
Submerge the motor in a large drum of water, to just above the cavitation plate (fins above the prop).
crank it over until the plug holes quit spitting cleaner, and replace the plugs.
Clean the fuel tank, and put fresh 50:1 mix
in. Pump up the primer and see what goes. or doesn't.
Let us know if it doesn't run for you.

------------------
the Early bird get's the worm...So, he don't have to stop for bait.

I got the same boat. I like ok. It could be more fishin friendly, and have SOMEPLACE to mount a trollin motor, but it ****s pretty good, and is fair on fuel ecomomy.
I know all about "priorities". Greenbacks sure don't go very far these days.
But Bayliner got a bad rap due to inconsistant quality control. If you have an 88, you lucked-out in two ways. First, it's still around, which means it was cared for. And second, if it had any bugs or problems with the lay-up, they are long-ago fixed.
Here are some photos of two of my best-loved
boats.(click the link below)
