1988 Johnson 6 hp Carb.

I made a post a few weeks ago about my 1988 Johnson 6 hp, and I finally found out what was wrong with it. The pin that runs through the floats in the Carb was corroded to where it didnt function properly. I sent it to the mechanic at the outboard motor place near my house and he tried to make it work but he said it had to be replaced. This is where my question comes in. Does anyone know if i can just buy the "Pin" that runs through the floats in the carb. or do i have to buy the whole Carb.?? If someone could give me some options, along with some prices, it would be very much appreciated!! Thanks!

Thanks for the reply BEAR! Yes, it is the hinge pin, do you have any suggestions for me?? Do you know of a website or what parts do i have to buy? Can I just buy the pin, or do i have to buy more than that?? Thanks!

I'm don't know of any OMC dealers on-line who got all parts. There is plenty of carb kits. <br /><br />I think the pin is made of brass. Your local hardware store or any mechanic or shop might help you. It's just a pin. Bring the carb and some of the pin with you.<br /><br />IF there is no Johnson/Evinrude dealer in the neighborhood.<br /><br />Good luck!

One post said 1980, one post said 1988. Which one? The 1988 has a plastic pin and comes in the carb kit. The 1980 pin also comes in the carb kit.

Clanton, my old post that i made, i wasnt sure what year my motor was, now I know that it is an '88. I had bought a kit from a local dealer and brought it down to the mechanic, and he didn't even have a chance to open it before he figured out that the pin was corroded. I'm not sure if there is a pin in the kit or not, but i will see if there is. Thanks!
