I just bought a 1988 Mariner 115 hp for my 1973 15ft. Baja that I got over the winter. Have these engines been reliable? What kind of speed could be expected from these engines?
What are some issues to look out for? I bought it mainly because of the price. $800.00 including the power tilt and cables. (yes, it runs). I couldn't pass up a deal :)

Assuming it's the 6 - the 88 was a great year.

Max advance must be 21 degrees or less, use mid grade fuel and prop it to make at least 5500 rpm. Speed depends on the hull design and weight etc. You prop it to make the right RPMS.

Cruise at 4200 for day to day driving.

Make sure the carbs are clean.

-W
