1988 mariner 150 hp

was wandering how dependable and relieable theese motors are ? i have heard alot of bad things about mariner motors but never owned one . but if the price is right who knows. i have always owned evinrudes myself.

This is the same engine as a Mercury ,just painted grey. Just make sure you have the engine checked for compression,electrical and gearcase problems. :)

gotta 88 150 magnum II new on a ranger boat, still goin strong now, had to put a electronic power pak on one bank and thats all, just maintainence, this motor is the same as a mercury xr4, down to the screws and zip ties, better than most brands of motors, ron

Sorry Ronnie, but yours is the same as a Xr2 not a Xr4 as stated, The MagII and Xr2 are 2 liter engines and the Xr4 is a 2.4 liter

I have a 2.0 liter Mariner 150 as well and so far no complaints. I wish it was a 2.4 though, for the extra torque getting on plane. It's on a 16 ft Checkmate Diplomat. With a 21 pitch 4-blade stainless prop it flies pretty good.

sorry, xr2, still a good motor, just REMEMBER to check the fuel and oil hoses on self oiler, can ruin a motor in 1/2 a second, good fumes to all, ahahhaha ron
