1988 Merc 60 3cyl, bad wires, what are they for?

[attachment=img=PICT0004.JPG] Hi all, I bought this 88 Merc 60hp, there are two wires, they look as if they carried too much elec. or were shorted. What do they go to? they are the one's in the upper l. corner near the hose and they disappear under the flywheel. Could they be to the starter (notice the fried drive gear)? Also, no tilt/trim

Andy, Thanks for responding. I can't tell the color, all insulation is burnt off. Do the pictures help. Thanks.

Are they the two yellow wires connected to the rectifier? There will be a grey wire connected with one of the yellows. The red is your 12+ DC. The yellow wires come from the stator.

The two yellow wires on top at the square thing (rectifer ) by your finger are the AC wires from the stator to charge your battery. The grey wire connected with one of the yellows goes to your tach.The red wire is DC +. It connects to your starter solonoid.
The switch box wires are as follows:
Left side, top to bottom:
Violet, white, brown. These go your trigger under the flywheel.
Top, left toright:
White /black from the trigger, Black/yellow from the kill switch and key off, blue, red. The blue and re are from the stator.
right side, top to bottom:
Green/red to coil- cyl 3, green/white to coil- cyl 2, green to coil-cyl1.
