I have a 115 inline 6 1988 and having problems with the RPM's at top end.
anything over 4000 rpms it wants to start missing, what I need to know is why?
I use 91 0r better gas and quicksilver 2 stoke oil, new plugs new fuel pump and rebuilt the carbs, what else do I need to do, starts up and idle's good.

Is it missing or loosing power? If missing try disconnecting rectifier annd see if problem goes away..

Have you cleaned all the fuel filters, strainers and screens? That motor may have backdrag carbs. Some of these carbs have a fuel screen under the brass fittings in the carb covers. Sometimes that get clogged.

I had one (exact engine) that I could run out of gas. I ran 6k rpm when I was trimmed out properly and after a short time of running like that, the engine just slowed down.

In short, after chasing several ghosts (the normal things you would suspect), I rerouted my fuel line and solved the problem.

I replaced all the fuel lines, no matter how it trimmed it starts breaking up at about 4500 rpms
