We have the above model engine in our boat. When we bought it it started. We changed the head gasket and rocker panel gasket. When starting ot after doing that work we noticed the carb would dump gas in upon turning off. We fixed the carb. In the process the resistor wire got damaged and over heated. We changed out the resistor wire. We also put in new plugs, new wires, condensor, distributor cap, ignition coil. Tried to start it again, it got spark but wouldnt turn over first three attempts. Now not getting any spark. Is there anything we are missing because at this point we have no idea why there is no spark.

Most MerCruisers have a shift assist switch on the upper shift cable. If it sticks open (common), the engine will crank, but not have spark. Look for a triangular-shaped device with a roller switch, where the shift cables join. it needs to be centered.

Of course, it could be other ign components.

You should repost in the MerCruiser section, as those are the experts.
