1988 Mercruiser 4.3L timing, base and advance?

I have a 1988 Rinker V190 w/ a 4.3L Mercruiser. I found the base timing to be between 8 and 10 degrees BTDC, what is the advance setting? Thanks.

8 initial
14 module advance
22 total advance at 2500rpm

I have a 1986 seaswirl OMC with a 4.3, I've been messing around with my timing. the book says 1 degree initial, but it runs better at 12 degrees, so I've been playing with the total advance inside the disturbutor, it's now set at 28 degrees mechanical with 2 degrees initial for 30 total. It seems to run better than ever, all put it in the water today to test run. any thoughts
