Hey guys, looking for some help regarding this issue im having with my boat. The volt meter reads 16+ volts when up around 3000rpm, on the gauge on the dash and i also have a digital volt meter that reads the same, which to me eliminates the gauge itself. I suspect its the voltage regulator. However This is the only regulator i can find:

My question is, my motor has a seperate rectifer and regulator. So would this unit replace both and take the place of both? And if so, how would i wire it up? I plan to get my battery tested first just to verify it is the regulator before i purchase anything.

You can use the one posted...yours had just a rectifier and a clipper.

Are you saying there isn’t a regulator currently on my motor? I’d have to disagree... the S/N for my motor is 0B348838 if you’d care to look

The small 2 wire box they call a regulator is actually a clipper as it clips excess voltage to ground. They never really worked well and most was removed and trashed. Install the newer style and wire it wire color per color and use the large red wire.

So to clarify, that one I posted would replace both the rectifier and the clipper?

Also, can you be more specific as far as the wiring goes. I apologize, I’m very new to outboards and boats in general.

Ok, it doesn’t matter which yellow goes to which yellow and which red goes to which red? Like there no input and output specific lines?

Correct......yellow to yellow, grey to grey and usually one of the red wires is a little heavier gauge and that what the old rectifier red goes to.
