1988 omc 3.0L seadrive

My 1988 3.0 L seadrive outboard overheat alarm is sounding after running for @ 30 mins. I got a good pee stream. and the block does not feel overly hot? 359 org hrs. and it runs great :( any suggestions

Welcome to the forums kpl....<br /><br />Did you check both head temps? One head can overheat by itself as there are two t-stats. One t-stat for the port head and the other for the starboard head. Take another look and let us know what ya' find. Thanks!<br /><br />Oh and by the way, post the model number or year of the engine when asking for help, preferably both. Does help. Thanks again.

the port side seems to be the problem. Do you think it is the tstat vs. the water pump? iS that a shop or driveway fix

you can do it in the drive way with help & a manual.<br />-<br />still havent posted year and model #???

kpl....look at the top of each head and you will see a four bolt cover. This is where your t-stats set. What you will need is: new t-stat, t-stat seal, t-stat cover gasket. Do both heads if your going for it. Becareful when removing the covers. The t-stats have a spring that holds them in place. Get your model number and go to your local Johnny/Rude dealer and get yer parts.
