1988 OMC Handle

Does anyone have any info about removing the handle on this? I don't want to break something which I'm prone to do on occasion. Thanks!

Loosen the allen head screw that goes into the handle from the back.----Loosen 2 or 3 turns.----Bump that same screw with a hammer.
