I'mmmm baaaaack...

I'm now part owner of a brand new (to me) 1988 Sea Ox 250c. A few family members and I went in and purchased her last night.

I've done quite a bit or research on Sea Ox boats because they are no longer made. It seems back in the 80's they were very good boats. This model is 25 feet long, 8'6 wide with a dry weight around 4100 pounds. Very solid and very heavy. These boats are built with 5 stringers standard. The boat is dirty but structurally sound. She's been inspected and passed with flying colors. The twin 150 Johnson's are old but compression is solid. 135-140 psi on all 12 cylinders. Over the next few months we'll be cleaning her up and plan to drop her in the water early April.

Asking price - $7,900
Purchase price - $6,000

From what I read the entry angle is 78 degrees and 18 degrees at the transom. Not the deepest V in the world, be it should do fine in the Delaware Bay chop. I'll update with pictures as we clean her up.

Awsome boat. Looks like you could go after some bluefins with it.

Thanks guys, haven't posted anything, but we've been hard at work. As you can see from the pictures the boat was very dirty so we scrubbed for days. Cleaned up some wiring. Replaced some lights. Disconnected the VRO's (don't trust em).

The hardtop was covered with mold, took some elbow grease but it came out nice.

Removed all teak in the cockpit and replaced it with starboard. Trashed the back three hatches on the transom and fabricated our own single hatch. It doesn't hinge, the entire stainless door comes off giving full access.

Fabricated starboard rod/pole holders

Re: 1988 Sea Ox 250C Refresh

Added a fresh coat of bottom paint (worst job ever)

Painted the motors

-Ran the motors in tubs a couple times, before and after removing the VROs.
-Replace the windshield wiper.
-Bought some life jackets, fire extinguishers.
-Replace the water pumps, thermostats.

Put in 100 gallons of gas in the 180 gallon tank. $330 plus $20 in oil...

Launch time!

Re: 1988 Sea Ox 250C Refresh

We had the marina by our slip lift the boat in the water.. It was a little nerve racking to see it teetering on the forks. But all went well and it was so nice to just sit back and have them do the work.

Firing up the motors

Our slip is probably 1/2 mile from the marina. Engines fired up so we idled to the slip (mostly no wake zones) At the slip we got all the dock lines set and ready to go.

Re: 1988 Sea Ox 250C Refresh

Had an issue with the starboard motor. It was idle fine but the second you would power up in gear it would stall. There was a bit of water in the fuel water separator. Replace the filter and the issue disappeared. Both motors ran great. I never ran WOT but it cruised around 30mph at 3800 RPMs. Both the console and tank fuel gages are stuck at 1/4 tank, so that sucks, but all in all it was a great day. Managed to do a little fishing, but mainly just wanted to test the boat.

She is a wet boat, especially in a following sea. I need to do a better job timming to get the bow up. It's a little different driving this beast compared to the starcraft, which is now up for sale. It's sad, but I'll never use now that the Sea Ox is running.

I have to remember to move the camera next time to record more boat/water and less dashboard!

That's a heck of a boat for that price and to have it out on the water after what was essentially just a lot of elbow grease is amazing. Heck of a find there!
