1988 Skeeter SF 175 SX

I was wanting to know if it is possible to repair the transom on this model of boat using the Seacast and not taking the top cap off...? I was hoping to remove the motor, cut the top cap off of the transom and chisel all the wood out with a long bit and chainsaw... I just want to know if I will be able to get to all the wood on this model...

Thanks for your time!

Re: 1988 Skeeter transom repair question

Short answer, Probably.
Best answer, for a boat of this vintage, if the transom is bad there's a very good chance the stringers and bulkheads are too, as well as the foam is probably waterlogged. I would highly recommend you investigate the overall integrity of the boat before you invest the time and expense of a Seacast transom on a 23 year old boat. JMHO.

That's what I have been thinking too... I just hate to "junk" the boat, I have done so many other things to her...

can you see below decks via any of the hatches? If not you could cut some holes in the deck and take Foam core samples and possibly get to the stringers.

Unfortunately not... If I had the room, I would pull the top cap off and replace the stringers, transom, knee braces and cross member... but, I don't. I have been considering selling the motor(s) and the hydraulic steering system that I installed last year. Also, would sell the tandom axle trailer if I had a spot to take the hull...

I have a 86 skeeter starfire 175 and I have the same thing going on and going to try to fix it.
