Hello all,
First, I would like to say thanks for all the great posts on here. have really learned allot from you guys. But i've got an issue that I haven't found a remedy for yet and am about to loose my marbles..... I've got this wiring issue with my 1988 88spl. The manual states regulator/rectifier but model number is J88mslccc which calls for rectifier. There are a couple items that have caught my attention but am not sure of what to do.
#1. Purple lead on my outboard is unattached to anything coming off the rectifier. Just as shown on image.
Q: After following the purple lead into the connector, turns out its supposed to connect to the battery positive. How? if its unattached to anything?
#2. Red lead off the rectifier is attached to the red/purple on strip, not the red and are not linked near rectifier.
I did find that with red/pu is linked to the red at the starter solenoid.
Q: Should I connect it as shown on the image? Or leave it as is. It just doesn?t look right. Plus, if this lead is the charging output lead to battery, wouldn?t the inline fuse on the red/pu lead limit the charge input to the battery? Which would be a good reason for my batter not charging. which is the case.
#3. Common blk and yel/red on starter solenoid are reversed on my outboard.
Q: Would this affect the performance of the engine? I?ve noticed that other model outboard wiring diagrams show to wire it same as mine so am confused of importance of these wires being crossed or not.
#4: Battery doesn?t charge. I?ve got some troubleshooting to do yet, so will let you know what steps and finding on this issue. I know it could be a number of things such as bad stator, rectifier, wiring, ec.t. But am convinced it?s the wiring issue from question #2.

The outboard does run in its current configuration, just cant use any accessories to not drain the battery. when I do, then I use the kicker motor to get home but its pretty slow going and tells me there are wiring issues. which is why I'm here. lol.
Any advise would be great.
Thanks
~Juan
