1988 starcraft bluewater221 offshore

I am purchasing a 1988 starcraft 221 offshore. The owner is claiming the motor is a 260hp ford v8. and the outboard in an omc cobra for sure. I would like to know if this is probable since I see that they were chevys pt in these boats. My real question is if I can switch to a mercruiser and expense or should I purchase or rebuild,etc. sorry I am not real boat smart but can learn quickly! Thank you

Ayuh,.... Welcome Aboard,.... OMC used both Ford, 'n Chevy in '88,...
Ford distributors are forward, Chevy's are Aft,...

To swap in a Mercruiser driveline, you'll spend the cost of another boat,....

It'd make more sense to just buy what ya want in the 1st place, 'n walk away from the OMC,...
