I was just given a 1988 19ft Cuddy Cabin Starcraft Islander 190v by my grandfather who passed. I was wondering what type of kicker motor is the best for this style of boat. I am wondering if I should get a 15hp or 9.9hp. I know I need a long shaft, but how long? I need a 4 stroke as well. Please help if you know this style of boat. He had a 9.9 evinrude on it, but that is gone. Should I upgrade to a 15hp? Is it to heavy for the transom? I am looking at a 2003 Yamaha 15hp long shaft, 22in or a 9.9 extra long shaft evinrude 1999. Thank you for any help!

Historically the 15s were usually very similar in weight to 9.9s from the same manufacturer so it was a no-brainer upgrade. Not sure if that still applies to 4 strokes but probably. I would think a standard long shaft would suffice. That Yamaha sounds like a winner.
