I have a 1988 Stratos fish and ski that i would like to repaint. I am a pretty fair mechanic however when it comes to painting I could use a few pointers. I was wondering if there is a proper procedure for repainting my boat such and sanding procedures what paint to use etc. Even though this is a fresh water boat I have been using it exclusively in saltwater. The topside of the boat is severely blistered and faded from sun and salt.

There are many methods to achieve a good paint finish, but there is only one hard and fast rule...Preparation, Preparation, Preparation...
The better it is done, the better the final product will look and the longer it will last...
The final top coats of paint finish are as much a reflection of the world around them as the surface to which they are applied...
That being said, here is a great starter to achieving a excellent finish for not a lot of money...
Thanks to Iboats member, "Woodonglass"...

I am not sure if the Rustoleum paint will hold up in a salt water environment, but there are many excellent paints designed specifically for the marine environment...
Awlgrip, Interlux, Dupont, Petit, 3M, are some...
Check out the Iboats store for some choices...
Boat Paint & Varnish - iboats
Whatever paint you decide to use, be aware that they are all designed as a system to work together within their recommended guidelines...
Go to each of the manufacturers websites and familiarize yourself with how they recommend the paint be used.
Most will tell you things like what grit sandpaper to leave the finish in before the next coat and how long you have to apply the next coat...
Good luck,
GT1M

Thanks one thing i forgot to mention. I dont have a spray gun, so I plan to use a paint roller and brush. Thanks for your quick response.

Using a roller and a brush are done very often with very good results...
Check on YouTube for "Roll and Tip" Painting...
Takes a little practice and getting used to, but the results can be almost as good as spray painting...
