1988 Suntracker with 35hp Mercury

I have a hose coming out of my lower unit. thin plastice maybe 1/4" diameter, the other end goes under the deck and into the gas tank compartment, but doesn't hook up in the tank anywhere, it dissapears from there. It's split in the middle with a connector, but I don't know what it is and didn't want to hook it up without knowing. It originally had an autoblend unit on it but was removed. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thats the hose for a speedometer pickup

Thanks. I appreciate the advice. I didn't want to hook it up without knowing what it was, but that explains why the seedometer does not work.
