I picked up a free v135 disassembled because the lower unit was seized. I got a working unit mounted, and power head mounted. I’m having difficulty figuring out out to install the shift shaft. I have the service manual but still having a hard time figuring it out. I have never worked on a outboard before. Looking for someone who can help guide me on the reassembly. I will post pictures of the parts I have and how the motor sits when I get home. I’m also not confident I put the exhaust tube and all gaskets on correctly. Appreciate any help I can receive so I can find out if this motor will run

I am not sure what a "working unit" is.

Are you trying to install the upper shift shaft? It is normally installed before the powerhead is installed, as it is under the carbs, and sometimes the block.

Did you look at the parts diagrams on sites like crowleymarine?
