I have a 1988 Evinrude 70 hp that when started only runs for a minute or so unless I keep chokeing it. I have the OMC manual and the VRO2 test requires that the engine have a test wheel, which i dont have, and that it needs to be run at full thorttle which I can't do. Is there any other way for me to eliminate the fuel pump as a problem. Thanks.

Keep pumping the primer bulb in the fuel line to see if it keeps running.

Ok, thanks. If the engine continues to run then a defective pump and if problem persists then the pump is fine?

If you have to keep choking it, it sounds like some carb probs which tells me the pump is working but you have some dirty carbs.
