1988 vs 1977 25hp

I currently have a 1988 Evinrude 25, and am looking to trade for a short shaft motor. Lets say both of these motors are in good condition with good compression. How much of a difference would I notice going from the 88 to the 77...power wise. I know the 88 was rated at the prop whereas the 77 was at the head.

Just curious because I dont want to loose alot of power.

it is probably 3-4 hp difference, with the 77 tuned properly, set up on the boat properly, height, trim. i you may notice little difference. but loosing the drag of the long shaft, may make up for the difference.
