Re: 1989 15 hp Evinrude stalls in gear under load

Thanks AITn. I'll check that out. I cleaned my carb yesterday when i got my rebuild kit in the mail and went to replacing gaskets. I've got a couple of questions regarding the carb rebuild. First, the spring clip, float valve number 0603145. This must have been missing on my carb and i have no idea how to put it back on. Any diagrams or ideas? The second is i've been reading alot on this posting board about orifice plugs and their removal to clean the carb and i don't see any on my carb. All i see is a screen on one of the holes, any idea if this is correct?

Thanks,

go to The Source for 9.9/15 hp. omc diy'ers....leeroysramblings.com...outboard motor related articles...9.9/15 hp...carb, fuel pump articles.....the needle valve clips into shepard's crook then the longer part of the clip slides onto the float arm...the metal tab on the float arm's "hinge" < where the pin slides through > always points toward the carb body, not the float bowl

The orfice plug, main jet, screws into the side of the nozzle well....diagrams at marineengine.com

I've got a quick question for you. A lot of places that i've read say that when adjusting the slow speed idle you need to gently seat and then back out 1 1/2 turns out. On Leeroy's Rambling's he mentions for post 1987 15 HP Johnson/Evinrude it's a good starting point to back the needle out 4 turns due to finer threads on the needle. Anybody have any input on this?

Thanks,

I just wanted to thank everybody who answers questions on this forum and the one's who replied to my post. I replaced all the missing parts, rebuilt the carb, and adjusted the ss screw. Finally after two weeks of getting sidetracked I was able to the boat out and it started in two pulls and ran like a champ. I was telling everyone i'd have it purring like a kitten, and with ya'lls help it is.

Thanks again,

Rick.
