I am trying to figure out what is wrong with an older OMC outdrive. The outdrive was replaced a couple years ago by a mechanic who supposedly bought and installed a "rebuilt" outdrive on the boat. My personal opinion is that he bought a used/not rebuilt outdrive and just slapped it on; as there has been nothing but problems since the installation. So the boat will run real good in reverse, but when engaged in to forward the prop will spin but very slow and does not increase when throttle is increased. Also there is water getting into the LU oil which also leads me to believe that the "new" outdrive was not properly rebuilt and pressure tested before installation. Also the shift cables are all new and were installed by a "Real" mechanic, but we cant seem to get this boat going good. After the "new" outdrive was installed, the boat ran fine for about 20 minutes and then it has all been downhill from there. Thanks..

I must also warn you that I have torn into a couple outboard LU's but never an I/O outdrive, so take it easy on me guys!! The last two times this boat was out we had to use reverse to get back to shore! Hopefully this is something I can fix or this baby is going down the road!

As far as the adjustment issue, you would need to pull the drive and adjust it using the OMC cable adjusting tools that you can find on eBay and Amazon.

You need to pressure test the drive and figure out which seal is leaking. Obviously that problem is your first priority.
