Working on reassembling for SIL's unit. IPL and a video on Dangar marine show 2 seals inserted back to back. Carrier right now has only 1 seal. Was the 2 seals a change or more likely someone put in a single seal though it appears to be too thick to be just one of the proper seal? So likely a generic seal?

Two seals were the norm, for many years, then someone designed a Double Lip Seal, that way if it fails the Internals become water cooled fast, and don't stand a chance. With 2 seals you might get some time and notice water in the Oil

I lost 1 bolt . Simple 5/16 course but smaller hex head. $13 cdn. Luckily we didn't lose the prop nut at $28 cdn. Is there anything special about those bolts holding the lower case to upper other than head is 3/8 iirc rather than usual 1/2 for a 5/16? Really special detente ball at 8.50 a pop .

I will assume this non thru Prop Exhaust gearcase. Clearance for a Socket, most likely, and the contact area is Circular, not a Hexagon which could chew up the housing. Years ago they used Screws, not Bolts, but the thread was the same

These bolts can be found at the local hardware store.----Parts pricing is a mystery to some.-----That ball is a 4 cent item.-----But the shipping / storage / handling / identification / packaging is $8.46.----Find that ball in an old ball bearing if you like.

I just had some balls drop out of a 6204 bearing on a mower spindle. I should mic them both.

Making spare parts, identifying spare parts , warehousing spare parts , retrieving spare parts, shipping spare parts costs a lot of money.-----Many manufacturers now offer you the opportunity to buy a new motor instead of spare parts.----This improves their bottom line and not yours.-----I do not believe BRP makes any money by offering you a single bolt at $10.00.

That $10.00 bolt probably changes hands 15 times before it get to you.

The concept of parts pricing is not well understood.-------If you ordered just 1 egg from a farmer $100 miles away , how much would it cost you to get it on your doorstep ?
