Hello everyone,

I have a1989 Evinrude 200 hp #E200STLCEB and the control valve assembly is leaking. My question is can I bypass it with a ?T? or is there something else to consider?

Thanks,

You have to have the valve in the system to keep the mtr temp up at idle.

I read a couple of threads that talked about upgrading the cooling system to a ’93. I couldn’t figure out the particulars but it seemed pretty simple to eliminate this valve from the system. Does this make any sense or should I start trying to find a replacement?

Yes you can. It is very easy. Remove everything including the covers and the water control valves. Throw them in the garbage.

Buy the t-stat covers, springs, gasket, and t-stat x 2. Install and go boating. You just replaced all your problems with good old fashioned engineering..... I had to tune my springs down to 1.75" long from the 2.0" long they come. I achived this by cutting and bending one loop off them. This make the t-stats lift off at 1500rpms and the temps are 140-160'F at idle and and 120-140'f at WOT.

Great rework and works great! Check my thread below for the part numbers. Don't remember them off the top of my head.

You can also go to shop.evinrude.com and look up a '93 200 mtr. They have good parts diagrams.
