PP or coil, not so bad.
Dependability really IS everything when you're out there.

coil seems to be firing almost has to be a bad power pack..I can not think of anything else that would cause it not to be firing on a single cylinder while firing fine on others..the yellow wires do not matter which one goes where. put one where the yellow wire was and the other where the yellow/gray wire was.

Re: 1989 225 txced hard starting cold

Alvin Marine called today the fellas doing the work
they told me they ran threw it and came up with the same prob after checking everything only point they could find was a low ohm test on starboard side of timer base but #1 does fire when running
And with the plugs in that #1 and #6 dont fire meaning the stater isnt turning it fast enuff? starter is new also they had a reading of 1.2 on all cept #1 had a reading of .8 they made a comment that the compression was all over the place which i figured it was since i bought it used

Thanks fellas

stator can be tested easily with a dva adapter should be 150v + on both sides going to PP

Hard to tell if they are asking you a question or telling you they fixed it already.

Compression test is usually the first thing to do before buying parts.
Might be time for a decarb to try even out the compression numbers.

You have a new stator, new timer base and new coils etc right?
What about spark plug wires?
Did you try swapping those?

It 'could' be cranking speed, it needs 300 rpm when cranking.
If its weak I would be looking at the battery, terminals and cable condition.

Re: 1989 225 txced hard starting cold

Thank you everyone for your input really apperciated ;)

I spent 550 at alvin marine for a link and sync , water pump , thermostat on one side , new plugs ,and linkage piece for the shifter that had the head sheared off . They alss stated it was time for a carb cleaning and i didnt have the coin for . So i ran some carb and injector cleaner in 6 gallon tank and ran the tank dry it is not puffing or "lean sneezing" as the mechanic out it . So all in all i am very happy with everything.

going to start a new thread about a prop

once again thanks everyone
