Have worked on boat for 1 year, rebuilt motor, carb, new alternator, starter and distributor W/points. Cranks up and runs for about 15-20 min. Antifreeze coming out over flow at high rpms not at low rpms. Coil gets hot, replaced coil, wiring has been cut and connected but not sure if its right. Too many wires on + side of coil.

AF overflow could be from a leaking haed gasket, was motor ever overheated? Points ign systems require a ballast resistor or resistance wire
On the+ side of a coil you have 2 wires. One is the ign "on" wire and the other is from the solenoid to supply battery voltage ONLY during cranking .

Motor rebuilt complete, 7-8 hours on it. Yes purple W/yellow stripe to coil and purple to coil W/spliced orange wire to coil and a green wire to coil and a red W/black from relay going to coil as well.

do you have the mandatory 2 quart puke tank?

the plastic over-flow tank that is connected to the nipple under the radiator cap. the expansion tank on the heat exchanger is only about 1/3 of the volume needed. (the volume should be 10% of the total system volume, since 6% is the absolute minimum and the heat exchanger expansion tanks is only about 2%)

Yes, back pressure coming out of overflow at high rpms

is it coming out of the plastic over-flow tank? if so, drain your cooling system and pressure test (easy as hell on a 470). you probably lost the head gasket.
Had coolant tank tested and is good, complete motor rebuilt with maybe 8 hours on it. Got some wiring issues, resistance wire is wrong wire, coil heating up.

Ordered resistance kit, somebody put regular wire spliced into on it

No, removed it, looks new, ran water througb all ports, flow easy.
without pressure testing, you do not know if you have a cracked tube sheet or other problems that would cause the symptoms you are describing.

Could a bad HX do that? coolant can leak to the raw water side, but it would take increased pressure in the freshwater side to flow out the overflow tank. You should pressure test the system, but it could still hold pressure with a bad head gasket. Did you pressure test the radiator cap? That could cause antifreeze to back up into the overflow. Bad head gasket would have a violent backflow, with air in there as well. You can check with a clear hose between the reservoir and the overflow, or check the antifreeze for combustion gases (they make test kits for that). Also, are you overheating at all, especially at the high rpms?
