Hey guys, I've done tons of research and can't find any answers so sorry if this has been brought up before.

I got a 48 spl to replace the blown 60hp on my boat and the manual touch trim has given me problems since I got the motor, it worked fine at first then just when I was ready to take it out of the garage to start it after some work it got stuck down. I ended up drilling out the set screw that was stripped and releasing hydraulic oil and it went up and down fine for me until Thursday night on my trip back to the dock. I am thinking that the valve just needs released since I have the cable unhooked since it now will not go down the whole way.

Long story short I want to replace it with just a shock for helping to lift it up and to keep it from slamming down, I have kept in mind that it likes to pop up in reverse but that hasn't been a problem so far. I have found OMC part # 387792 Manual shock absorber on ebay but it says it fits 88-140hp motors. It looks like it might mount up to mine but I don't want to waste $50 to find out, does anyone know if this will fit or if I could go to an auto parts store and get a car shock that would allow me to have some type of tilt assist? I was not able to find a part number for a shock like this for the 40-50hp models, the ones for the big motors seem to be abundant and new/old stock since everyone put power t&t on right away.

Thanks and while I am keeping an eye out for power t&t units, $500-600 is out of my budget at this point in time.

Thanks.

You may want to take the tilt assist cylinder into a good BRP dealer and see if he's got something to compare it to.

Well the one listing on eBay has some dimensions listed and it appears it would fit width wise, the bracket is 6" wide and that is what I measure on my transom mount, just not sure if it would keep the motor from sitting completely vertical. I am going to mess with the touch trim this week once I finish up my shift tonight and see if I can't get it to work right. I am hoping I will be able to get it so it goes up and down freely like it was, even if it's not lockable it was still aiding in the lifting and lowering of the motor. If not I might take a shot on one of those shocks, there are no BRP dealers close to me that I know of. My only concern is that the 48 has 3 holes for mounting the lower bracket of a t+t/shock and the 88 has what appears to be 5 or 6 holes. Also I don't want the shock to be to stiff for my little 48.

I have found that this is obviously not something a lot of people try or worry about since there isn't a whole lot of info out there, I guess everyone goes with power t+t when their touch trim breaks like they seem to all do but you would think someone would try something like I am, I guess it's just not posted on the interweb.

Thanks again
