Hi Guys, I recently got this 50 hp 1989 Evinrude and it turned out to be a tiller. It actually came with spare motor and controls, the only thing was the spare motor was 1993 40 hp Johnson and controls belonged to it.
It also came with no key for the controls and busted tiller handle. And PO does not know if it runs. I checked the compression and it was 110 on both cylinders with hand pull (yes i killed my hand). It has tilt and trim.
So i want to somehow try to start it without huge investments, so was thinking about starting it without connecting new controls. I am not sure if it is possible.....

So here are questions
Question 1: Is there a way to start tiller motor without tiller handle?
Question 2: What is this switch on the side of the motor - photo 4?
Question 3: What is this plug for on Photo 5?
Question 4: What are the wires on Photo 6?

This is busted tiller handle. Photo 1:

Here are the controls with big red plug for the 40 hp one. Photo 2:

Here is another plug that is connected to the CONTROLS, red wire is disconnected. Photo 3:

Here is some kind of switch on the motor. Photo 4:

Here is the plug on the motor side. Not sure what connects here. . Photo 5:

Here are 2 sets of 2 wires on motor. One has Yellow and Red, other - Violet and Red. I think Yellow/Red is the power trim.... . Photo 6:
