1989 50 hp Johnson shuts off at idle but runs great WOT.

I can prime the ball and it will idle all day. If i get it out on the lake and run it at WOT and bring it back down to neutral it will sometimes just shut right off and sometimes the rpms will drop to 1,000 then bump up to 1,500 and shut off. I have brand new fuel line, primer ball and filters which did not solve the problem. Sometimes the fuel filter looks empty when I check after it shuts down. If it shuts down and I prime the ball it will start back up and idle fine. If I take the rpms up above idle and put it back in neutral it will shut off. Any ideas?

Sounds like you either have a fuel pump on it's way out or a leaky crankcase pulse hose that drives the fuel pump.
