Equally when it has been ran for 15 20 min. it takes me 4 or five starts to get it running. It is electric start. What can be my problem I have brand new plugs and wires carbs synced & cleaned and runs great after started????My choke on the control box also is working properly compression 105 on all 3 cyl ? Starts on hose at home fine on fist turn every time.. What could be my problem??????????????

Joe,

Use this starting procedure.

1. Pump fuel primer bulb until hard.

2. Turn the key to the "on" position-NOT START.

3. Push the key in and count to eight.

4. Release the key.

5. Turn the key to start.

6. Once started, you may have to "bump" the key in to keep it running.

Did you clean the carbs yourself? If so, how did you set the float level? Does the primer bulb pump hard and stay hard when engine not running?

my carbs were cleaned about 1 month ago by a pro shop. the primer bulb on the gas tank stays hard after running and gas tank is vented.

What spark plugs? What grade fuel? Is it fresh? What oil? Oil ratio?

I don't understand your original comment about starting fine at home. It seems to me that you should be looking at the choke. 1st make sure its not flooding (look down the carb and make sure puddles of fuel aren't forming. If it isn't flooding, try adding more fuel with a spray bottle as you crank it. If you have good compression, spark and the right amount of fuel it will start.

Re: 1989 60 hp HARD STARTING ALWAYS!!!!

Most cases of hard starting are the result of improper starting procedure. Does your motor have an actual choke or a primer? If it has a choke, there will be a solenoid with a plunger that actuates the choke linkage for each carburetor. If it has a primer, it will have a small solenoid with an orange/red lever on it, and several hoses coming from it, one to each carb. The choke works continuously when you press it in, while the primer only give one squirt each time you press the key in. If the motor is warm, you should not be having to choke or prime the motor. If the motor is cold with a choke, hold the key in while starting, letting it out when the motor fires. Then tickle it until warmed up. If it's a primer system, press it in several times before turning the key to start. Again, tickle it a bit until warmed up...
- Scott

Are you advancing the throttle slightly when trying to start it?

Re: 1989 60 hp HARD STARTING ALWAYS!!!!

my main problem is that it starts for 5-10 seconds and then turns off. after that wheter i push the key in to prime and or just turn the key and try to start it just wont stay running until I try to crank it 5 or 6 times.but when I flush the motor on the hose it will start every time by just turning key
