I have a 1989 60 hp mariner that only overheats at wot. It is the model with no thermostat. I replaced the water pump with the full kit not just the impeller. I believe that the pump is sucking exaust at wot causing the overheat. Lots of milk around the pump and up the skeg. Lower gear oil is fine. That would leave me with the seal between the pump and lower unit and the seal at the top of the copper pipe just below the power head, correct???? Is there any other place to look for a leak? I ordered the bushing for the seal at the powerhead and was hoping I could do it through the skeg instead of pulling the head. Can that be done? If not what other seals would I need when I am reinstalling the power head? One last thing, is there a seal at the top of the exhaust tube at the powerhead? The tube on mine falls right out, to a point, when you drop the lower unit. Thanks in advance.
