A friend who is not computer literate (which is why I am doing this for him) recently purchased an old Tracker Magna with a 60HP 1989 Mariner outboard. The boat had very old gas in it so he tested the motor before buying by using a portable gas tank with new gas. The motor ran fine for several minutes and it was hooked up to a hose for the water pump while running. He now has siphoned out the old gas and put new gas in the boat's tank. When he again started the engine it ran for about ten seconds and then stopped. He can only keep it running by pretty much continuously pushing the choke button on the boat's throttle assembly by the steering wheel. He assumes this type of choke is also an electronic primer which is shooting gas into the engine. He has taken the fuel filter off and it is clean; he can blow through it with no difficulty and checked out the fuel pump. What does anyone think the problem might be? Thanks for your help.
