1989 80hp 3cyl wire question

New to the forum, bought a '89 Mirrocraft Northport Angler with a '89 Merc 80hp 3 cyl outboard. Seems to run fine, but when I take off the starboard cover, there are some visible wires under the oil container connected with male/female connectors. One of these wires (brown/tan) is disconnected.(see pic) What is it for and should it be connected?
