I have A 1989, 85 horse power Force motor, on a 1992 Caravelle Bowrider. I've done so much work to it. It runs great. My top speed is 28 mph from (GPS). Am I expceting to much thinking It should have more speed or should I leave well enough alone? Also, I am using a 19 pitch stainless prop.

I found this on the internet. Not sure if it is the same as your boat however in the add they have a 190 horse and it only does 50mph
Used Boat

I have a 1987 85 hp Force on a 17 foot Bayliner. Top speed is 30 to 32 mph with my GPS and I'm running a 18 deg. pitch on the Prop. I would say that is the best we can ask for out of a Force.

I dont think the force is the issue here. If the above link is what your boat is the thing weighs 3000 pounds. Seems more like that motor is way to small for that size boat. If you put that motor on a 16 foot aluminum boat it would probably do 40 mph.

My Boat is a 17 ft Bayliner. the total weight FULLY loaded on trailer is 1960 LBs. Trailer is 600 Lbs or so. I can get 30-32 out of it. Thats at 5800 FT and a 15 pitch prop @ 4600 rpm. I still need to rejet it for this altitude but don't expect more than 34 if that.

Force is an ok motor but seems to be over rated by 20 Hp or so.

According to the Merc prop slip guide and such If I really had 47 Hp thats the speed I should get.

I will save my pennies and get an Evinrude V-4 90 or a Merc 90. I bet I see 40-42 mph with a 17 pitch prop.

I rebuilt my Bayliner to be lighter and stronger than the original. I did that. At WOT I cut a 5 ft wake and nothing rattled, broke, or cracked.
Heck I did not even get wet. My teeth snaped together, that hurt!

I have a 1989 Bayliner Capri 1700 with Force 85 HP outboard and got 35 MPH on GPS (Speedo showed 37) with just myself in the boat and a full tank of gas (20 Gallons). This was in a lot of chop, so I would expect a little more MPH on a smooth lake and with less fuel in the tank.

A 17 foot bayliner weighs 1900 lbs. A Caravelle Bowrider weighs 3000 lbs unloaded. I would think with an extra 1100 lbs that it would effect speed
