Oil is leaking out of the water discharge on my 9.9 sailmaster. Is this a headgasket problem maybe from a bad waterpump?

HI, When you say out the water discharge do you mean the overboard indicator, the little stream of water, or are you getting the black oily residue from the hole in the back of the exhaust housing?

It's from the discharge on the lower unit. I've been told it's no big deal, that it's extra oil that hasn't burned in the cylenders and mixes with the water being discharged in the cooling system, but this doesn't sound right.

Hi Sailnl<br />If the oil is coming out the exhaust and or some little drain holes. This oil is nasty looking, black, coffee looking, milky, then its probably normal as you were told. Defenetly not a head gasket or water pump. If this oil is clean (looks like honey) then you my have a problem. Good luck, have fun.
