1989 Mercruiser 3.0 Alpha 1 starts sometimes and doesn't start sometimes...
when it starts it is normal and fires up and everything (let's have fun)
When it doesn't, I don't even hear the starter spinning. It is a mild inconvience.
If I turn the key and don't hear the starter spinning, I quickly (1 second or so) let off of the key...I held it too long last year and it melted the battery terminal!
It always starts, but sometimes when the starter doesn't run, it takes several times of trying to start.
I have checked all terminals on the ignition and they are tight. All wires to the starter are tight (no loose connections)
Is there some sort of external solenoid (kinda like a starter for an electric motor) or something that might be going out?
Sometimes it starts right up and sometimes it takes as many as 5-10 times of turning the key on and off (to the start position and back off) to start.
Any thoughts?
