1989 bass tracker how fast?

I have a 1989 bass tracker 1600tf with a 60hp johnson. When I bought it it did not run. I drained the gas, rebuilt the carbs and replaced the power pack. Now it seems to run pretty good. With my daughter and I it jumps up on plane in about 30 seconds and really hauls around the lake. Last weekend i took my father, wife and daughter out for the day and it struggled to get on plane. Once it planed out it ran about 30-32 around just fine. It would take 5 minutes or more to get up and plane. It would come up to about 12-15 mph at 4000 rpm and just lumber there for a while and finally pick up that last little bit and plane out. Is this normal for this boat? We were right about at the weight limit. I dont really know what I should be expecting because this is my first real boat. I had little fishing boats befor but this is my first one over 10 hp. Also any tips on trimming it so it planes faster? What should I be doing? Thanks. Sam

Trim all the way down on the take off, after she hits max speed start trimming up for more speed.

Does your boat look something like this?


If it's taking 30 seconds to plane off, something is seriously wrong. Should be 3-4 seconds.

To put this in perspective, a 24 ft Bayliner cruiser planes off in under 6 seconds.

Assuming you have it trimmed all the way down on take off, either that motor isn't putting out the power it's supposed to, or the previous owner may have put a monster prop on it thinking he'd get more speed.

Check the engine rpm at full throttle(4500-5500). Did you check the compression, since you said it wasn't running when you got it.

If that motor is developing proper power and is propped right, it should take right off and accelerate up to speed (near 40 mph) with a light load in the boat.

I think it was more how the load was on the boat, if you had people up front they really don't like that, nothing kills speed faster than weight.

I think if you had moved a person or 2 out of the bow area it would have planed off pretty quickly and if you were running 30 with that load I would say you are doing pretty good.

For future reference if it takes more than 20 seconds to plane stop and move some load, have the largest person in the back and the lightest forward and that should help.

I have a 16 aluminum v with a 50 and it will jump on plane like jestor said, unless someone is up front, then it really struggles.
